07. What is the BARS scale?

The Behavioral Anchored Rating Scales, also known as BARS, is the format for creating scales anchored in behavior for the assessment of some construct in performance assessments.

It is measured through 4 points, and in Mindsight's assessments it is the main basis for preparing performance assessments. You can find it with different nomenclatures within the assessment, but the methodology will always be that.

Basically, it is used to align the expectations regarding the competences being measured in your assessment, and make them less subjective. That is, when we refer to certain competence, it is common for each individual to have an interpretation of the expected behaviors of what is considered below, average, expected and exceptional for that competence.

Therefore, the BARS scale emerges to remove this subjectivity and make expectations more aligned, and everyone who is carrying out the assessment can understand more easily what is expected of them in that behavior.
